Katadyn Pocket Water Filter - The Need for a Water Filter
Outdoor enthusiasts and travellers who remember to take along water purification products when taking trips are increasing in numbers. The wide variety of water purification systems like Katadyn Pocket Water Filter offered in the market can make it difficult to make the proper choice. Not all products that claim to be water filters are actually water filters. Getting the right information can sometimes be a difficult and time-consuming task. Yet portable water treatment products are important for the safety of every traveller and must be part and parcel of every first-aid kit.
Why do you need a water filter like Katadyn Pocket Water Filter? Refreshing is the word to describe how a gushing mountain brook looks. However, clear brooks and lakes are not safe from pathogens. The quality of the water sources all over the world are at the very least questionable. The general rule nowadays is that if you do not want to depend on expensive bottled mineral water for your drinking source, and prefer to take the water nature gives you, you should never try to do so, without the use of water filters like Katadyn Pocket Water Filter.
The pathogens that are present in most of our water sources are divided into 3 micro-organisms, i.e., protozoa, bacteria and viruses.
Protozoa
Protozoa are single-celled organisms, in sizes of 1 to 15 microns, which get into the drinking water through animal and human feces. They are highly resistant to chemical disinfectants, but are easily filterable due to their size. Protozoa include amoebae, giardia, lamblia and cryptosporidia.
Bacteria
Bacteria are single-celled organisms, in sizes of 0.2 to 5 microns, that rapidly propagate in water. Bacteria are not a health risk, unless they get mixed together with human and animal feces in drinking water, then they become dangerous. Bacteria in water, though, is easily filtered without difficulty, through the use of a good water filter. Bacteria include e-coli, salmonella and cholera.
Viruses
Viruses, in sizes of -0.02 to 0.2 microns can only propagate in living cells, as they do not possess their own metabolism system. The mechanical filtering of these pathogens is difficult because of their small size. Filters with a pore size of -0.02 microns are needed to effectively filter these viruses from your water supply. However, viruses are heat and chemical disinfectant-sensitive. Viruses, are normally bound to cloudy water particles, as such they can also be removed with filters with a pore size of 0.2 microns, to a large extent. Viruses include hepatitis A, Norwalk virus and polio virus.Try Katadyn Pocket Water Filter today!
